"Painting has always taken me outside of myself. The journey was often to include the coast of Maine, a garden path in Mexico or into the fleeting smile expressed on my model's face.
During cancer treatments, I'd open a big box of photos that I often used for subject matter and became an escape artist. As I painted, I'd lose myself deep into a landscape or seascape. I'd feel the weather, the wind, the water, the mist for as long as my energy allowed. Later, I'd feel good again, to have been capable of accomplishing this feat during such a difficult time. What a rewarding prescription!"
